Letter to the Editor – 11/1/18
As an independent nuclear physicist I have done extensive analysis of, and written about, the Global Warming issue over the last ten years. Based on my research I have determined that 1) CO2 cannot drive Global Warming (GW) to the extent predicted by the UN IPCC, and 2) GW Alarmism (GWA) is not warranted. I have identified at least sixteen reasons why the claims made by the GW alarmists are not substantiated by the evidence. The technical references provided at HeinzLycklama.com/RefutingGWA support these sixteen reasons. Here are some facts. CO2 makes up only 0.04% of the atmosphere, and humans can impact only 3% of this. Natural causes such as Total Solar Irradiance (by the sun) and Pacific Decadal Oscillations (by the oceans) have much more effect on global climate than CO2. The average global temperature has been higher during the Roman Warm Period (250 BC to 400 AD) and the Medieval Warm Period (950 to 1250 AD). We are coming off a Little Ice Age (1500 to 1750 AD) and should not be surprised that we are experiencing some warming. The global climate has always changed in cycles over the last few thousands of years. We are well within the past high and low average global temperatures today. Besides, the average global temperature over the last 18 years has been largely stable, indicating that the temperature has not tracked the increased CO2 in the atmosphere over that time. Let’s do a little math. The 7.5 million people in WA state make up only 0.1 % of the people in the world (7.5 billion). Even Al Gore admitted that if the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 was fully implemented, 100’s of trillions of dollars would be required to impact the average global temperature by only 0.3 degrees Centigrade in 2100. Spending $1 billion per year by WA state would be a drop in the bucket and would have ZERO impact on the average global temperature. The I-1631 Initiative proposes escalating taxes of at least $1B per year with no cap, no accountability to voters, and no benefit. Consumers would be strapped with these higher energy taxes with no benefit for years to come. Vote NO on I-1631.
